General Background:
Yondaime hails from the village of Konoha (aka Hidden Leaf Village) a ninja village in the Fire Country where they believe him to be dead. He was one of the village’s greatest ninja and for a brief while he had the honor and priviledge of being the village's 4th Hokage (Village leader). In Konoha, he is known as a hero for his defeat of the demon nine-tailed fox, Kyuubi, and it was during the fight to seal the Kyuubi that he supposedly lost his life, absorbed by the jutsu he used to destroy it. He managed to live through the inccident with the help of his frog-summon, Gamabunta, was healed in secret and later taken out of the village. He's spent the last fifteen years wandering the various countries in his world and avoiding ninja villages for reasons he keeps to himself before coming to fandom, eager to be able to teach again.
Personality: When fighting, he's everything a ninja should be: Serious, focused, strategic and strong. Normally though, Yondaime is very laid back, at times to the point of being silly.
Notes Regarding Yondaime's Name:Yondaime doesn't offically have a name in the series. No information has ever really been given about him except that he was the Hokage, he sealed the Kyuubi, can summon the frog family, was Jiraiya's student and Kakashi's teacher. In one of the earlier chapters of the manga, Jiraiya has Naruto sign the scroll for the agreement to summon the frogs. There is a name between Jiraiya's and Naruto's which is known to be the name of Yondaime. It is in kanji, written by hand in blood. (lovely, I know) So it is difficult to translate, though most fans go on the assumption that the name there is 'Arashi Uzumaki'
Also creator, Kishimoto's preference for quirky and punny name combinations for his characters would support this theory as Arashi means 'storm/tornado' and Uzumaki means 'Swirl'. Which, if theories prove to be true, would match his son's name since Naruto is a type of fishcake with a swirl inside of it.
